IBM defines Digital Twins as “a virtual representation of an object or system that spans its lifecycle, is updated from real-time data, and uses simulation, machine learning and reasoning to help decision-making.”
It’s a virtualized version of an actual location, right down to the real-world sensor data; things like room temperature, air pressure, water flow rate, electric current, and anything else you can monitor with a sensor. Digital twins are commonplace in industrial situations, but their adoption is beginning to snowball, and you may soon interact daily with many digital twins without even realizing it.
